Modern Apprenticeship

Engineering: Technical Support

Develop technical support skills such as CAD design, quality control, and system optimisation through this specialised apprenticeship program

What is Engineering: Technical Support?

This pathway is designed to develop essential technical support skills such as CAD design, system troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

Apprentices gain expertise in creating detailed engineering drawings, diagnosing system issues, and implementing quality control practices. This program ensures apprentices understand technical processes and can effectively support engineering operations.

With a focus on precision, problem-solving, and adaptability, this pathway prepares apprentices to meet the challenges of technical roles in modern engineering environments.

What does it involve?

Vocational Training

A 20-week block developing essential skills in engineering, including safety compliance, technical data interpretation, and efficient working practices.

Three mandatory units and five optional units ensure the training is relevant to the pathway, covering areas such as advanced drawing techniques, quality control, and system diagnostics.

Delivered in our state-of-the-art workshop, this stage develops practical expertise, preparing apprentices to support engineering projects.

Academic Qualification

Delivered in The Academy over 20 weeks, apprentices gain foundational knowledge in engineering systems, IT applications, and graphical communication to deepen engineering knowledge.

Apprentices also learn communication and problem solving skills, critical for technical support roles.

This stage provides academic knowledge along with analytical thinking, bridging the gap between academic learning and hands-on applications in engineering.

Advanced Certification

After the core 40-week program, apprentices return to the workplace where they refine the technical support skills relevant to their carer.

A portfolio showcases their technical achievements and meta-skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and creativity.

The Diploma at SCQF Level 7 monitors and assesses apprentices to ensure competence for technical support roles.
